The local retail chain, Tusker Mattresses Group operating under the brand name Tuskys, has entered into a partnership with AMREF Health Africa in a bid to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the partnership, AMREF will provide on-ground health education and awareness support at Tuskys Supermarkets and Mavazi Lifestyle clothing stores for its customers and staff. The education will be delivered through community health workers (CHWs) stationed at the retailer’s stores countrywide.
Tuskys earlier in the week announced a partnership with a local logistics solutions provider, Sendy for home deliveries so as to reduce the risk of transmission in its stores. Customers place orders through WhatsApp at selected branches, pay through mobile money and have the orders delivered to their doorsteps.
AMREF’s Kenya Country Director, Dr. Meshack Ndirangu said the organisation had entered into this partnership to provide on-site assurance, stakeholder education, and situation response capacity.
“The threat of the novel Coronavirus remains a major risk factor to individuals and business enterprises. Forging share value partnerships between health care service providers and corporate organisations, remains critical to mitigate prevalent risks, raise awareness and provide rapid response capacity,” said Dr. Ndirangu.
AMREF is set to deploy over 100 health professionals across the brand network of the retailer.
Tusker Mattresses CEO, Dan Githua, reaffirmed the retailer’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its staff and customers.
Mr. Githua said, “Sanitation management for all our high touch, high traffic areas have been enhanced, and we are constantly sanitizing our tills, trolleys, shelves, and even back endpoints such as stores and warehouses. We are not leaving anything to chance.”
The retailer said it is maintaining a daily situation monitoring programme and has already installed handwashing stations, distributed hand sanitizers, and personal protective equipment to its staff.
