Safaricom’s (NSE: SCOM) M-PESA has announced a Ksh 23 million sponsorship towards the inaugural Ladies European Tour set to take place from 5th to 8th December 2019 at the Vipingo Ridge Baobab Course.
The tournament marks the first time professional lady golfers have played competitively in the region. The 72-hole stroke play competition will be a significant milestone in the history of the sport in Kenya.
Safaricom CEO, Michael Joseph said, “We are honoured to be a key sponsor as Kenya and the region hosts its first ever Ladies European Tour.”
“At Safaricom, we have always been keen at promoting the growth of sports and sporting talent in the country. The Ladies European Tour presents an excellent opportunity to elevate Kenya as a golfing destination and to also encourage uptake of the sport among ladies in the country,” added Michael.
Tickets are now available for sale at Ksh 1000 per day for general admission, VIP tickets will go for KES 10,500 per day or KES 45,000 for a week-long VIP pass.
The player field for the tournament is 108 with golfing stars from all over the world battling it out for the coveted 300,000 Euro prize fund. Among those scheduled to take part are Tiger Woods’ niece, Cheyenne Woods, and Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord.
There will be a live broadcast of the event for million of viewers across the globe.
The tournament will be preceded by a Pro-Am on 4th December and the event organisers, U.COM Event will be contacting amateur Kenyan golfers to take their place alongside the professionals.
